BOCL Foundation Education
There are significant inequalities in access to secondary education as far as income, gender, social group and geography are concerned. The capacity of the secondary schooling system needs to be significantly expanded across India.
For instance, only 16% of India’s education budget is spent on secondary education compared to 62% for primary education (Secondary education in India: Development policies, programmes and challenges). The gross enrolment rate (GER) for combined secondary and senior secondary stages (Classes IX–XII) was nearly 50% in 2019-20. Besides, not a single Indian University figures in the top 200 of the QS World University rankings 2019.
To accelerate the educational quotient of India, BOCL Foundation's educational programs address the need of the hour and fosters the youth by providing open access to quality education using a multi-pronged approach:
• Providing access to quality education through a network of schools
• Offering BOCL Scholarships to the meritorious students
• Planning to set up a world class university
• Supporting like-minded partners.
Bringing the joy of Christmas
Since 2018, BOCL Foundation has been organising Christmas Parties for underprivileged children. Children are invited to the Hamley's store to enjoy an entire day playing games, doing exciting activities and singing and dancing to the tunes of 'Jingle Bells' with Santa Claus. The children get Christmas gifts from Santa and leave the store with an experience that they remember throughout the year. The toys, the Christmas tree, Santa- the experience is a dream come true for these children! BOCL Foundation strives to make their dreams come true so that they can welcome the New Year with lots of hope and excitement.
BOCL Scholarship Programme
The BOCL Scholarship Programme is aimed towards fulfilling BOCL’s vision of providing opportunities to the youth and empowering them to become future leaders. Initiated in 2019, the scholarship supports meritorious students of standard XII to pursue college education and nurtures them to emerge as young professionals. BOCL Scholarship Programme is a targeted programme where scholarship is awarded to top few meritorious students who meet the selection criteria of BOCL Foundation, based on the merit list provided by the State/CBSE Board.
The BOCL Scholarship has enabled students to pursue higher studies in streams such as engineering, medicine, law, pharmacy, science, business management and other social sciences. A large number of BOCL Scholars have pursued further higher education from premier institutes in India and abroad, for e.g. IIT, IIM, Stanford University etc. Almost half of the BOCL Scholars are girls. The scholarship unleashes the potential of the youth of India to grow into leaders in their respective fields.
So far, 12,776 meritorious students, have been awarded scholarships under the BOCL Scholarship Programme in India. The scholarship programme plays a key role in building confidence and motivating students to excel in their lives.
Currently the programme reaches out to all States and Union Territories of India both in rural and urban areas. The scholarships are awarded to meritorious students who demonstrate need for financial support and to differently abled meritorious students under a separate category. These young scholarship recipients represent the ‘hope, optimism and potential’ of Future India.
